Any business which serves, handles and cooks food requires its employees to be trained to a certain level in food safety.
Level 1 Food Safety is the beginner’s or entry level course designed for people who may come into contact with food but are not directly food handlers. It is not suitable for chefs for example, but it is suitable for front of house employees such as waiting staff or back of house employees who are not directly involved in cooking and preparing food such as porters and stock taking staff.
Training your employees in food safety ensures you are meeting the requirements set in place by a number of UK and EU laws which ensure that food safety is being adequately managed.
To comply with the provisions of Regulation (EC) 852/2004 of the European Parliament on the Hygiene of Foodstuffs, the Food Safety Act 1990, and Food Hygiene (England) Regulations 2005, amongst other legislation, you need to invest in training.
The dangers of trading as a food business without trained staff can include fines and warnings from the local authority but seriously it can result in the sale of unfit food and injury/illness or worse to customers.
Failure to stick to the legal food safety standards can result in food contamination which can lead to closure of the business, serious ill health for your patrons and even fatalities. The importance of adequate food safety training cannot be underestimated.
