Asbestos was believed to simply be a building material but its toxic dust and particles have killed thousands, making it perhaps the most dangerous material ever used in construction.
Thousands of people fall ill and die due to asbestos poisoning, including both those who worked with it and those who lived or worked in properties lined with it. The HSE report thousands of deaths per year from mesothelioma and related conditions caused by asbestos and this is a trend set to continue due to the use of asbestos in building as late as the year 2000.
Asbestos Awareness Training is integral for the safety of anyone working in construction and related industries. The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 apply to employers, employees, self-employed persons and duty holders and cover all work with asbestos containing materials. Regulation 10 of CAR states that every employer must ensure that adequate information, instruction and training is given to employees who are liable to be exposed to asbestos. This includes maintenance staff and anyone who may plausibly come into contact with asbestos.
Our Asbestos Awareness course options include a standard course and one specifically for Architects and Designers.
Courses are designed to provide you and/or your employees with all the information you need to work safely around asbestos and to be aware of the signs that the substance may be present in any work. Those working in demolition and construction are highly at risk of asbestos exposure even today so it is integral that employers provide that adequate level of information and training to meet the law.
Understanding the Impact of Asbestos
The human health effects of asbestos exposure can be fatal. Asbestos fibres are usually inhaled without any realisation and they cause all kinds of conditions including asbestosis, pleura, lung cancer and mesothelioma.
Although asbestos is not used in building now, many people working in the construction industry, demolition industry, architecture and design may come into daily contact with the substance and vigilance is necessary where this is the case.
Asbestos Awareness Training
Asbestos Awareness training is not designed for those who will be involved in removing asbestos. It is for people who may have to work on buildings built or refurbished before the year 2000. Awareness training teaches people about the risks of asbestos and is designed for employees who could potentially disturb the fabric of a building, resulting in asbestos exposure.
